Regularly Employ Deep Cleaning Process every 6 months

  • Every six months is a good time to clean your ice machine. It cannot be done weekly or monthly due to the corrosive chemicals of the cleaner.
  • WARNING Only use NSF-certified cleaning products / sanitizing solutions. NSF certified means it meets the rigorous standards set by the National Sanitation Foundation. This is to ensure customer safety and customer health.

Step 1: Shut Down Ice Machine

  • Access power buttons by opening the door on the bottom left of the front panel next to the indicator lights. To turn off the machine, press and hold the red off button until you can hear it shut down and the machine.

Step 2: Empty the Ice bin & Remove Components to be cleaned

  • Melt or remove all the ice from the storage bin.
  • Remove the two screws that hold the front panel in place. Using the thumbscrews, remove the evaporator lid.

Step 3: Begin the automatic cleaning cycle 

  • Press and release the yellow button on the controller.
  • When the yellow clean light blinks, the display will show ‘C’.
  • The machine will then start a harvest cycle, drain reservoir, and then begin refilling.

Step 4: Add Ice Maker cleaner solution

  • Have two gallons of Add Scotsman ice machine cleaner solution ready with the correct ratio. Make sure to consult your manual for the correct ratio.
  • Wait until the display flashes (AD1), and then pour the cleaner directly into the reservoir until the container is full.
  • The unit will then clean, and drain during its cycle
  • This process will take about 35 minutes and then the screen will show “O.”

Step 5: Add Ice Maker cleaner solution

  • Repeat Step 4 but with a sanitizing solution. Make sure to consult your Ice Machine Instruction manual or consult your service provider for the correct ratio and complete cleaning procedures.

Step 5: Use Sanitizer Solution for Exterior Components

  • Make sure to clean the entire unit by sanitizing the following ice machine components using the Ice Maker sanitizer solution: 

    • When cleaning your ice machine evaporator and its cover
    • water level sensor
    • ice thickness sensor
    • water distributor
    • curtain
    • splash panel

Step 6: Clean Condenser and its Filter

Step 7: Re-assemble and Continue Operation

How to Clean Scotsman Prodigy Modular Nugget/Flaker

It has the same cleaning procedure as Scotsman Prodigy Plus Modular Cuber except for the following:

  • Prepare 3 gallons of sanitizing solution
  • Automatic cleaning cycle will last for 20 minutes

How to Clean Scotsman Meridian (HID) Ice and Water Dispenser

Step 1: Shut Down Ice Machine and Turn Off Water Supply

  • Remove the top panel and bottom splash panel, disconnecting all of the wiring harnesses to all of the sensors.
  • Turn the power switch on the controller to the off position.
  • Press and release the “on/off” button on the controller so that the display shows “o”.
  • Use the handle or knob located on the reservoir to turn the water supply off.
  • Drain the water from the ice-making system by pulling the gray hose located at the drain basin. Once drained, return gray hose to drain basin plug.

Step 2: Empty the Ice bin & Remove Components to be cleaned

  • Remove the reservoir cover: To raise the reservoir, loosen the thumbscrew, raise the reservoir, and then tighten the thumbscrew again.
  • Turn off the ice maker and remove the ice from the ice bin. Then press the Dispense Ice button.

Step 3: Begin the automatic cleaning cycle 

  • Pour sanitizer liquid directly into the reservoir until it is full.
  • Operate the machine for 10 minutes to begin the cycle
  • The display will show “F”. At this point, the ice machine will start producing ice along with the Scotsman ice machine cleaning solution.
  • Ensure that you keep the reservoir full while the machine is making ice by pouring in the sanitizer when the water level in the reservoir drops.
  • After operating the machine for 10 minutes press the switch. The display will display “O”.
  • Dispose of all of the ice out of the ice dispenser and discard by pressing the Dispense Ice button on the controller.

Step 4: Add Ice Maker cleaner solution

  • Have two gallons of cleaner solution ready with the correct ratio. Make sure to consult your Scotsman ice machine instruction manual for the correct ratio.
  • Wait until the display flashes (AD1), and then pour the cleaner product directly into the reservoir until the container is full.
  • The unit will then clean, and drain during its cycle
  • This process will take about 35 minutes and then the screen will show “O.”

Step 5: Use Sanitizer Solution for Exterior Components

  • Sanitize the following ice machine components using the sanitizing solution:

    • reservoir cover/ ice discharge
    • chute cover
    • ice sweep, bin cover
    • ice outlet cover and thumb screws
    • agitator, rotor, and the ice and water discharge chutes.
    • Make sure to refer to your user manual for disassembly instructions.

Step 6: Drain Reservoir

  • Pour the remaining sanitizing solution through both the bin drain and sink drains and then rinse with clean tap water.

  • To employ flush process, drain the water from the ice maker, pull the gray hose located at its drain basin. After draining, return the gray hose to its drain basin plug.
  • Lower the reservoir by loosening the thumb screw, lowering the reservoir, then re-tighten the thumb screw.
  • Turn the valve located at the water reservoir to turn it back on. Let the reservoir fill up. When the tank is full, pull the gray hose located at your drain basin. After draining, return the gray hose to its drain basin plug. Repeat the process for another rinsing process.

Step 7: Re-assemble and Continue Operation

  • Reconnect electrical power.
  • Press and release the on/off button so the display shows “F” and ice-making restarts.
  • Install the upper front panel and the lower splash panel again.
  • You may now continue of your application ice machine
