Step 1: Before Plugging In

If you want to know how to use a Bunn coffee maker, you need to know what to do before plugging in the brewer:

  • Place a brewing funnel into its guide without any brew inside.
  • Lift the brew's top and slide it open.
  • Fill the carafe with filtered water using the brewer.
  • Fill the carafe to its maximum capacity.
  • Secure the brewer's cover, and power it on.

Step 2: Setting up the Commercial Bunn Coffee Maker

It is imperative that you do not plug in or turn on your Bunn coffee maker until you have finished the following procedures. You may damage it and in doing so, could void the warranty on your machine before you've even used it.

  • Put the brew funnel in place: Before you can make that first cup of brewing coffee that will wake you up, you'll need to slide the empty brew funnel (without the filter) into place above the coffee pot.
  • Fill the water reservoir with cold, fresh water: It's easiest to fill the coffee pot with cold water up to the fill line and then pour that water into the water reservoir. Depending on the type of Bunn coffee maker you have, you may have to slide or lift the lid to open it. Close the lid after adding water and wait 3–4 minutes for the inside tank to fill. And that's how you fill the Bunn coffee maker's water tank.
  • Fill the water reservoir again: Using the same steps as step 3, fill the water reservoir and coffee pot with cold water again. Put the coffee pot back on its base.
  • Wait for the water to stop flowing: The goal is to fill the reservoir all the way up. This means that some fresh water will get into the pot because it won't fit. Once it stops, pour out the extra water and put the coffee pot back on its base.
  • Plug the Bunn coffee maker in: You can now plug your Bunn coffee maker in and turn it on. The switch to turn the brewer on and off is on the side of the machine. Let your Bunn coffee machine heat up for 15 minutes.
